PMC ULD thermal blankets for aircraft pallets in airfreight
According to this protocol “PMC-ROL”, two pre-cut thermal blankets are used to insulate a PMC ULD airplane pallet. One of the blankets is placed on the pallet. The goods are placed on the blanket/ pallet and the blanket is folded upwards to protect the left and right side of the pallet. The second blanket is placed on the top and folded down-words to protect the top, front and back of the pallet. Both blankets and overlaps are sealed with tape to prevent potential cold bridges.

Training & Education “Day-training” sessions + certificate
When a 3PL-provider or pharmaceutical manufacturer wants to implement the usage of Temax thermal blankets or thermal covers, the company Krautz-TEMAX provides specialized or customer dedicated “day-trainings” and education. This day-training contains a three hours theoretical course on thermal energy and temperature phenomena followed by a three hours practical training on wrapping and insulating procedures (protocols and S.O.P’s). The training set-up can be a standard Temax® protocol or a new protocol which is specially developed for a certain pharmaceutical manufacturer. Please read the S.O.P’s (TRM-plan) before you start the wrapping or insulating of the pallets. In the S.O.P’s you can find more detailed information on the function of the overlaps and the sealing process which are crucial to avoid potential cold bridges or thermal bridges.
Insulation configuration (T1-S1-B1)
In this example the insulation configuration T1-S1-B1 was used which means that on all sides (Top, Sides, Bottom) one (1) layer of Temax-4000 insulation material was used. Please check the thermal energy calculations which were made for you which insulation configuration needs to be used for your transport or cold chain situation.
The Temax multilayer insulation foil is also used in the airfreight for the temperature protection of time-temperature sensitive products such as healthcare products or pharmaceuticals, food products such as berries or chemical products. When these time temperature sensitive products are transported by airfreight, a complex cold chain is generated or created in which many actors take their place and where different temperatures are appearing. It is a known fact that products may travel around the globe in an airfreight transport system meaning that may be located in totally different temperature environments. These temperature environments can be extreme high or extreme low, certainly on the locations where the products are loaded on and unloaded of the airplane.
These locations are known as TARMAC locations and are serious HCCP’s (Hazardous Critical Control Points) seeing the products are standing in the open air in local weather conditions. To protect the time-temperature sensitive products against these hard TARMAC conditions, more and more companies use thermal blankets such as the Temax insulation foil to offer temperature protection to avoid any product quality damages. It is the insulation quality of the insulation material that will determine the temperature preservation performance. The higher the insulation quality (R-U values), the higher the temperature protection.
Temax insulation material or thermal blankets are successfully in use at a lot of freight forwarding companies where the thermal blankets function as a passive cooling or packaging system to protect time-temperature sensitive products during the TARMAC times or during the total cold chain. The Temax insulated thermal blankets are wrapped around the time-temperature sensitive products, which are loaded on PMC-ULD aircraft pallets, where its goal is to protect the temperature of the products against unwanted external temperatures. The thermal blankets are pre-cut so size (3m x 9m) so main deck and lower deck PMC-ULD pallets can be wrapped or insulated. The thermal blankets can also be tailor made according to the required dimensions.
